Dashner developed his characters very well, so that you cared about what happened to them. The ones that do will have changed, as the situations thrust upon them have forced them to act in a manner they didn’t know they were capable of. This is a rather “dark” book, and not all of the characters that we’ve grown to love will survive. But Thomas doesn’t really know what they have planned, and he may be giving up more than he knows. Meanwhile, it becomes evident that WICKED needs Thomas, and he decides to give himself up for the opportunity to finish them once and for all. There they find an old friend, and a new group called the Right Arm, which is also against WICKED. They end up in Denver, supposedly a walled city which is keeping out the infected. He, Newt and Minho decide against having their memories unlocked, and eventually escape with Brenda and Jorge. Trust is hard, and Thomas no longer trusts anything WICKED says. They also find out that not all of them are immune to the Flare. In The Death Cure, Thomas and the survivors of the Maze and the Scorch Trials are being held in isolation at WICKED Headquarters, where they are told by “the Rat Man” (Assistant Director Janson), that they can now have their memories back.

Not really me, but apparently the first two could be.

Although I am not the target audience, and am a little out of my comfort zone, I have enjoyed getting to know the characters, and the story as a whole. Trilogy yes, but apparently there are more books to this series.

The Death Cure by James Dashner is the 3rd in the Maze Runner Trilogy.
